In this Explorer close-up you can see and hear how three singing styles are mixed together. Try playing with the volume and mute controls on the vocal tracks to listen to each vocal on its own. Or select groups of bars in one vocal and drag them to overlap with the other vocals in different ways.

Listening to each vocal track on its own, you can hear the singing styles are very different. Each in fact comes from a different musical tradition: Kasse Mady sings in the Malian style, Paul sings in a soul/gospel style and the backing vocals are reminiscent of reggae from the Caribbean. But in Moving Away they all come together.

Each of these traditions in fact stems back to Africa. So in a way, the song Moving Away itself is mixing and combining different traditions of African origin. So why is it called Moving Away?
