What is SoundJunction?
SoundJunction is all about exploring, discovering and creating music. It gives you instant access to a world of music and musicians. Unique interactive tools show how music works and provide opportunites for creating compositions. At the same time, articles featuring sound clips and filmed interviews provide a wealth of fascinating background information.
The sounds in SoundJunction
SoundJunction asked three composers from different traditions to write a piece of music, all using the same rhythm as their starting point. Moving Away by Tunde Jegede draws on West African traditions, Emerging Dances by David Horne is an energetic orchestral piece, and Where will it take you? by Jason Yarde draws on jazz, hip hop and R&B influences.
In addition to these three pieces, leading musicians and producers, including Colin 'C' Swing Emmanuel, Cleveland Watkiss and Dennis Rollins, have reinterpreted the original SoundJunction pieces. By combining parts of the three pieces with additional sound samples adn breaks, these artists have produced impressive remixes.
