The bassline can be a good place to start when building the harmony
In most music, the bassline is at the root of the music’s harmony and so it can be a good place to start when making a new piece. If you get the bassline and the harmony right, as a foundation, you can build up from there.
In the Explorer below, of Tunde Jegede’s song Moving Away, the six green links go to six bars of the bass riff that runs through the whole song. Click on the ‘find’ buttons to go to each bar.
Use ‘focus on part’ on the Bass part and then the play button so you can hear the bassline bars.
Click on the bars on each link to select them, then ‘copy to clipboard’, one by one, to put them in the clipboard.
If you go to the Composer, you can paste the bass bars from the clipboard into a new piece. Try making an 8-bar riff on a single part in the Composer.
