THE DIFFERENT PITCHES of the flute are achieved by the fingers uncovering holes which these days are covered by padded keys – unlike the early days of the flute when the fingers covered open holes.
Flute design is changing even today, and some have returned to a small number of open holes which are covered by the player's fingers.
