Tunde Jegede: getting the idea for Moving Away

When you’re writing music for someone else, it’s sometimes easy to feel constrained by their requirements

MUSICIANS WHO COMPOSE for a living often compose music at the request of individuals or organisations for particular occasions, purposes or people – known as composing under commission. Tunde accepted a commission to compose a piece of music for SoundJunction, which became Moving Away.

Obviously the commission itself didn’t give Tunde the idea behind the piece – he had to come up with that himself – but, as with most commissions for a particular purpose or occasion, he needed to make the piece work best in the environment and setting that it was intended for.
